Functional Capacity Evaluations

Functional Capacity Testing is an assessment process used to determine an individual’s functional ability in relation to specific job requirements or daily activities. FCT is commonly used in physical therapy, occupational health, and vocational rehabilitation to:

  1. Assess Work Readiness: For individuals returning to work after injury, FCT measures their ability to perform tasks essential to their job.

  2. Establish Baseline Capabilities: It evaluates strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and other physical functions to understand a person’s abilities and limitations.

  3. Guide Treatment Planning: FCT results help tailor a therapy or rehabilitation program to the specific needs of the individual.

  4. Document Progress and Outcomes: FCT can be used throughout therapy to measure improvement or to support decisions around return-to-work timelines and accommodation needs.
